Sleep eye masks are a simple solution to sleepless nights when you cannot get to sleep or stay asleep because of lights in your room or outside.
Sleep masks are quite popular and many swear that they make a huge difference in their feeling rested and refreshed in the morning.
Sleep Masks When
You Just Can’t Sleep
Sometimes when you are feeling really stressed, simple stress management just doesn’t seem like enough.
And it’s a well-known fact that, if you make your bedroom environment more sleep-friendly, you will have a much better chance of having a good night’s sleep.
Sleep masks can help, especially if you have a light problem. Night time light can keep you awake if you live in a neighborhood where there is a light outside your window, you have a skylight that lets moonlight flood into your room, or even if you have an alarm clock, an electric toothbrush or a computer giving off light.
Night time light can wake you, or it can prevent you from going to sleep, sometimes even keeping you up all night. Sleep masks block out unwanted light and can keep you sleeping soundly.
Sleep eye masks come in all shapes and sizes. Some fit more closely to your face. Some are firmer or softer than others. Some block out absolutely all the light while others let just a crack of light in.
Some sleep eye masks are playfully colorful, while others are functional black.
Here are some things to consider when purchasing one:
- Fabric – If you have allergies or you need to have soft fabric next to your skin, make sure you know what the mask is made of…
- Shape – While some people just like a soft mask that fits snugly to the face, others require that the mask have indentations to accommodate their nose and eyes.
- Fashion – If you plan to use your mask in a public place—work, plane, train, spa, outside–you might want to choose one of the more fashionable masks.
- Laundering – It’s nice to have a fresh, clean mask. How easy is the mask to launder?
- Size – If you are buying your mask for a very large or small head, make sure that it is made to fit the size you need.
- Light blocking – How much light does the eye mask block? Is it total light blocking or does it let some light in? Melatonin, the hormone that helps you sleep, forms in darkness. So total darkness gives you a hormonal advantage.
As you can see, there are all kinds of masks to suit everyone’s needs. So it’s important to decide what will work for you and then try one out for yourself!

Alaska Bear Natural Silk Sleep Mask
Made of 100% mulberry silk on both sides, this sleep eye mask is soft and comfortable. And the silk fabric breathes and is cool, even in hot weather.
That means that, even if you have a dry eye problem, you can use this mask.
The mask has adjustable straps, so it won’t grab your hair like velcro. And the adjustable straps also make it work for migraine sufferers, as you can make it looser.
This is a total blackout eye sleep mask, so if you sleep in the daytime, it will work for you.
One of the most inexpensive masks, you can buy the Alaska Bear sleep eye mask here at Amazon.
Bedtime Bliss Contoured Sleep Mask
This is a light weight sleep eye mask that has adjustable straps with velcro.
The mask is contoured to your face, and your eyes can blink and not hit the mask, so it doesn’t interfere with REM sleep, nor will it ruin your makeup if you are catching an afternoon nap.
Some reviewers have reported that the mask does let in a little light.
The Bedtime Bliss sleep mask is popular for both meditation and travel, in addition to regular bedtime use.
The sleep mask comes with ear plugs, a free ebook and a carry pouch.
Made in the USA. The company guarantees that you will be satisfied.
Nidra Deep Rest Eye Mask

The molded eye cups curve away from your face.
The materials used in the mask breathe and reviewers say that your face does not get too hot, even when you use the mask in the summer.

Sleep Master Sleep Masks
Of all the sleep eye masks that I reviewed, this one was the largest, covering more of your head. It actually covers your ears, blocking out some of the noise in the room or vicinity.
The mask is light weight and made of a breathable satin fabric with a cotton lining. It is soft and flexible and has a velcro attachment at the back. The mask is hypoallergenic with no latex. Hand washable.
On the plus side, this sleep mask does block all the ambient light, and it is quite durable. It is extra wide, so it stays in place better than most other sleep masks, which are held in place by straps.
The ears are padded and the mask would hold ear plugs in place, if you wanted to totally block out all sounds. The sleep mask is well made, and made in the USA.
Based on these features, it would be a good choice for planes, hotels or wearing if your partner likes to read late or watch TV.
I saw two possible drawbacks. You might need to fasten it loosely if you are sensitive to pressure on your eyes, as the eye area is not contoured. In addition, if you have a hair style that will be sensitive to being smushed, you might end up with “hat hair” in the morning. You can buy the Sleep Master eye mask here.
