- Ask for help – Ask others to help you with your work load. Often family and friends will lend a hand, at work or at home. As simple as this is, many people are afraid to ask for help, or they struggle through life, living as martyrs, because they don’t want to inconvenience someone else. Ask for help when you need it.
- Talk to someone – Sometimes just telling someone how you feel can help to relieve some of the pressure. Friends and family can lend support, and a counselor may help you gain insight.
- Know your limits – Know what you can handle–and learn to say “no” when that is appropriate. A common cause of stress is taking on more than you can handle. Don’t expect too much of yourself!
- Change your thought patterns – Stop your negative thoughts. Don’t let your thoughts take you downward. Negative thinking just makes things worse. Keep a positive mindset.
- Communicate – If you need more time to complete a project at work, tell your boss. Don’t let worry and anxiety interfere with your ability to perform well at work!
- Take a break – If things get too frantic, take time out to go for a short walk. Or take 10 minutes to meditate in a comfortable chair, away from the activity.
- Do some gentle stretching or yoga – For many, this is a relaxing way to end the day…
- Get some play time in – Spend time on your favorite relaxing hobby, take your dog for a walk or do some hiking or boating, over the weekend.

- Herbal remedies – are amazing in helping the body recover from the effects of stress. Lavender and St. John’s Wort are good examples. Herbs can also help individual systems of our bodies and they can be an overall tonic to help boost your energy and encourage healing.
- Hypnosis – Hypnosis works to relax both your mind and your body, with suggestions that help you focus your attention. This encourages muscle relaxation, and a deepening of consciousness. Relaxation hypnotherapy brings a person to a state of mind where you are open to suggestions that change the way you think about stressful situations. And hypnosis also makes it easier for you to change your behaviors, as well. It helps you get out of the rut of dysfunctional behaviors and interactions with other people.

Reiki simply brings your mind to a state of calmness within minutes, which in turn relaxes the muscles and the nervous system allowing your body to return to a state of health. As with all meditational therapies, it is best to do them every day so that you can get maximum benefit.
- Laughter – has huge health benefits. It can be considered a form of exercise because it fills the lungs with oxygen, similar to aerobic exercise. Stress is reduced with regular laughter – blood pressure drops, your mood is lifted, and your body relaxes, which in turn boosts your immune system. Laughing eases muscle tension and psychological stress. Simply, laughing and having fun is one of the best ways to relieve stress.
- Hobbies – Hobbies can be very relaxing, and they add a dimension of fun to your life! Sometimes all we need to feel more relaxed–is to laugh and enjoy an activity that is fun.
